      Education Manager

I oversee the daily running of the centre with Jenny as my Co-Manager. I have been teaching for more than 30 years both here in New Zealand and Tanzania, East Africa. Although I grew up in England I have lived much longer in New Zealand and consider myself a Kiwi.
I am passionate about laying the foundational years in children’s lives both educationally and spiritually.
I have been in this role at Footsteps since June 2007 and I am very proud to lead a team of professional, committed and caring staff.

I joined Footsteps in 2004 after a career in accounting, office and property management in the building industry. During that time I also managed a number of educational charitable trusts.
My task at Footsteps is to oversee the business, finance and admin; assuring we have the ability to keep our centre well resourced.

      Charlene

      Senior Teacher

As a centre based student at Footsteps I achieved my diploma in 2007. I followed on to complete my degree part-time, graduating in 2011. I have enjoyed working full-time building on my professional practice and progressing towards the position of senior teacher. Following the birth of my son and daughter I have reduced my hours to part-time to obtain my family and work life balance. God has given me a strong desire and passion to love children unconditionally and to help them grow and learn throughout their first years. I look forward to becoming a part of your child’s life.

I am a fully registered teacher. I completed my Bachelor Of Teaching and Learning Early Childhood in 2009, at the University Of Canterbury. I am grateful to say I have been part of the wonderful footsteps team for just over 4 years. In 2007 I taught English to 2 and 4 year olds in a Kindergarten in Beijing, China. I learnt a lot from this experience as I adjusted to the culture and managed to fit study in at the same time. In 2013 I had the opportunity of being a full time Nannie, looking after four year old twins in London for 6 months. I enjoyed my experience of organising play dates and trips with the children. I believe God has lead me to become a preschool teacher and I can honestly say I love my job.

I am originally from Ireland. I have been living in Christchurch for nearly a year and absolutely love New Zealand and learning all about the early childcare education curriculum in place here. I have been working in early childhood education for the past few years. After completing my certificate in childcare I went on to complete my BA honours degree in Social Sciences and then my Masters in children and youth studies all completed in Ireland. I love to travel and have worked and volunteered in early childcare in many places, including Australia, Cambodia, Brazil and South Africa. I love to meet new friendly faces and look forward to meeting you.

Kia Ora, I adopted New Zealand as my home 20 years ago after emigrating from my native country Zimbabwe. I graduated with a diploma in E.C.E in 2003. I am a mum of three adult children although the two eldest have flown the nest, there is never a dull moment. I am kept busy by three lovely lively grandchildren and a very active teen.
I am blessed to work with such a lovely team and have been part of this wonderful Footsteps team for 10 years now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am passionate about teaching but we all know it takes mountains of patience to teach, I love the fact that I have these attributes. teaching is a fun filled journey that has no destination, it keeps going on. I believe that not only am I a teacher but I like the fact that I can learn with and alongside the children, it keeps me fresh and energetic. I absolutely love teaching and helping children explore and discover the world around them. I look forward to many more years of helping our future leaders of tomorrow aspire to be the very best that they can be.

I have been working here at Footsteps since 2014. Before working here I home educated my three daughters until the two eldest attended their tertiary studies. I only had a break from this while we lived for two years in Australia. While in Australia I gained some experience working in a child care centre while studying for my certificate grade 3 in Children’s services.
I love the friendly, loving atmosphere Footsteps brings and watching the children grow as they learn more and new things about the world and themselves. It is a privilege to be part of such a great team.
